The state of Chihuahua has earned national recognition for its outstanding performance in the 2025 vaccination campaign, achieving an impressive 250 percent of its target. This remarkable milestone was highlighted during a meeting of the State Vaccination Committee, where federal and state health authorities reviewed the strategies implemented to combat the measles outbreak in the region.
Led by Governor Maru Campos and Secretary of Health Gilberto Baeza, Chihuahua applied over 244,000 doses of the 14 vaccines included in the universal vaccination program. This effort placed the state third in the country for meeting its vaccination goals, showcasing a strong commitment to public health.
The federal government, represented by Daniel Aceves Villagrán from the National Center for Child and Adolescent Health, praised Chihuahua’s coordinated approach. The collaboration between state institutions, the Mexican Social Security Institute, and the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers was key to this success.
The measles outbreak, which has affected Chihuahua with 844 confirmed cases, three hospitalizations, and one death, underscored the urgency of the campaign. Authorities emphasized that the outbreak, caused by imported cases, required swift and unified action across all levels of government.
In response to the growing demand, the federal government delivered 200,000 double and triple viral vaccines to Chihuahua this year. An additional 100,000 doses are expected to arrive soon, with another 235,000 planned to further strengthen the state’s immunization efforts.
The First National Vaccination Week of 2025, held from April 26 to May 3, was a critical moment for Chihuahua. During this period, over 90,000 doses were administered, with 22 percent targeting measles, including the measles-rubella and measles-rubella-mumps vaccines.
Governor Maru Campos stressed that vaccination efforts will continue beyond the national campaign. The state’s health centers will keep providing free vaccines to ensure ongoing protection for the population, particularly for children and vulnerable groups.
Secretary of Health Gilberto Baeza highlighted the logistical efforts behind the campaign, involving medical staff, nurses, volunteers, and over 200 health centers across the state. More than 50 special vaccination modules will remain operational to sustain the momentum.
The success of Chihuahua’s campaign reflects a model of coordination between federal, state, and municipal authorities, as well as international organizations like the Pan American Health Organization. This unified approach has been crucial in addressing the measles outbreak.
While the state celebrates this achievement, health officials urge residents to remain vigilant and complete their vaccination schedules. The ongoing availability of vaccines at no cost ensures that Chihuahua continues its fight against preventable diseases with determination.
